Miss Universe NZ wears controversial dress.

It wasn’t so much what the dress looked like, but more who designed it that caused controversy for Miss Universe New Zealand Ria van Dyke.

Ria chose traditional colours for her national costume at the Miss Universe 2010 pageant but her black dress was made in the US and that has left the NZ officials pissy!

It does seem a little strange that the dress designed for the national section was not designed in New Zealand.

Her headpiece and cuffs were however, designed by Kiwi designer Natalie Chan.

Although the Nz officals are having a fit about it, I would love to see them fork out the dosh for what an NZ made costume would cost. This fab girl is studying at a Postgrad level and has much bigger things to worry about then spending $10,000 on a gown! She looked fab! Nz has a real shot

Only thing I really like is the earrings. But yeah, the whole shebang should be NZ designed and made.
