The 19-year-old songstress who was eliminated early on in the X Factor competition but later brought back, has been crowned the 2011 winner.

Melanie Amaro edged out Chris Rene, 28, and Josh Krajcik, 30, mentored by LA Reid and Nicole Sherzinger respectively, to take out the X Factor title.

Amaro was eliminated early on in the competition, but reinstated when her mentor Simon Cowell realised he had “made a mistake”.

She was awarded the grand prize: a $5 million recording contract and a starring role in a Pepsi commercial.
