ERIC DANE who play’s McSteamy (Dr. Mark Sloan) on Grey’s Anatomy is leaving the show! will NOT return to "Grey's Anatomy" this season.

The show's creator Shonda Rhimes says, "After much consideration and conversations, he and I have decided that this is the right time for his storyline to end."

He will still appear in a few episodes in season 9 as he is written out completely.
