What is your single about?
It's not really about anything in particular, I'm sure like most songs it will mean whatever it means to different people. for me I think it comes from a place of extreme optimism in spite of anything your up against.
Where did you record this single / who helped you?
For this song I worked with long time friend and collaborator Nic Manders (Brooke Fraser), and we decided to just record it in his lounge, we wanted it to be a relaxed process and relaxed sound.
Do you have a video out for it?
No I haven't made a video for this song yet. am going to shoot it over Christmas though.
Who's in your band?
Just me most of the time, although I get to make music with lots of my friends playing live and recording.. which is probably the best part about making music.
Are you touring soon?
No tour plans at the moment, as I am right now working on my new album.
Do you have an album out?
Album will be be out in the new year.
MORE ON LUKE THOMPSON:
Tauranga's Luke Thompson spent time in high school bands and it was through one of them appearing at a Smokefreerockquest that he got his break. As the singer-guitarist he was singled out for a scholarship which allowed him a year’s study at a music school of his choice (he went to Wintec in Hamilton) and to his surprise stayed for the full three year course, supporting himself by playing in an acoustic duo around pubs and clubs.
He furthered his song writing and asked acclaimed producer Nic Manders (Brooke Fraser / Avalanche City) if he would produce a single for him as part of a class assignment, sent that to NZ on Air and a grant to record another followed.
Thompson was on his way and with Manders he began work on what would become Here on the Ground in the middle of 2007. By then his two singles ‘Morning Light’ and ‘Perfect Drive’ – both on the album – had done well at radio.
Luke has more recently been out touring nationwide with Avalanche City.
'Get Through It' is another fantastic collaboration between Thompson and Maders, and will appear on Luke's forthcoming album early 2012.
