What is your single about?
Blind Eyes is written about how it’s easy to assume
things that are important to you, whether it’s a relationship, job,a friendship
etc will last forever, and often they don’t and we have to deal with this.
Where did you record this single, and who helped
you out?
I recorded this single at the Lab Studios in Auckland
with Olly Harmer. I funded the album myself and produced most of the tracks by
myself, but when I’d finished recording Blind Eyes I thought it could do with
someone else’s help, so the talented Wayne Bell came up with the idea of adding
the banjo which is quite a feature on the song.
Have you got a video out, if so what is the
theme/story behind the video?
I sure do! I filmed Blind Eyes in New York last
year when I went over there to play some gigs. The story starts with a photo of
my ‘boyfriend’ and I, and I’m scribbling his face out with a vivid pen. The
vivid comes alive and it shows flashbacks of us indifferent scenarios before
we’d broken up but the scribble I’d drawn comes alive and takes over his face
until he’s just one big scribble!
Who’s in your band?
I have lots of talented friends who play with me at
most gigs, at the moment I’m playing with Alistair Deverick, Cass Mitchell,
Hayden Booth and I’m often joined by special guests.
Have you got any tours coming up?
I have a gig coming up on the 13 December at the
Wine Cellar in Auckland. I’ve just finished recording a Christmas Tour with
Massad and Titanium for the Telecom Christmas trees, and we also recorded a
Christmas song together.
Have you got an album coming out soon?
I’m recording new demos
over summer and working towards my second album. The first single ‘What Would I
Give’ will be coming out at the end of January. The video features my cat Misty
and a giant pink elephant sent from China! (No animals were harmed of course!)
