Former The Hills star Lauren Conrad has revealed MTV bosses have scrapped her new reality show after deciding it was "too highbrow" for their audience.

Conrad shot to fame in 2006 on The Hills, which documented her move from Laguna Beach, California to Los Angeles in pursuit of stardom.

Her latest venture focused on her attempts to build a career as a fashion designer and author since leaving the hit series in 2009.

But the project, which kept her private life off-limits, failed to thrill TV executives, who have passed on the show.

She tells the Hollywood Reporter, "We sold a show to MTV, filmed it and are really proud of the final result. MTV felt the subject matter was too highbrow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life.

"We agreed going into the project that this show would be an 'aspirational' one, focusing on my career and my goals and not my personal relationships. We delivered the show that we sold and are sorry MTV didn't feel their viewers were savvy enough to appreciate it."
