Lady Gaga is to be honoured for her contributions to fashion at one of America's most prestigious design awards ceremonies.

The pop superstar has regularly stunned fans with her wacky costumes, which have included an outfit made from meat, a lobster hat and a frock created from Kermit the Frog puppets.

Gaga's outlandish style sense has now landed her praise from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and she will be feted at the organisation's upcoming Fashion Awards in New York next week (06Jun11).

The Poker Face hitmaker will be presented with the Fashion Icon Award at the ceremony. Other celebrity guests at the prize-giving will include fashion-loving rapper Kanye West, who will present a trophy to Celine designer Phoebe Philo.

West mentioned Philo in the lyrics to his song Dark Fantasy.
