The ideal way to launch your debut album is to precede it with 3 massive singles that get played on every TV channel and every (good) radio station in the country. KIDS OF 88 have done this, creating a hungry pocket of kiwi fans ready and waiting for Sugarpills. Everything about the 10 track album feels very calculated, like nothing is being left to chance. They obviously wanted a big record, but they want it on their terms. And good on them. The all killer, no filler approach is great if you can achieve it.
The album starts with a hiss and a roar on Ribbons Of Light, mixes the songs you know (My House, Just A Little Bit and Downtown) evenly throughout and maintains good pace throughout. Definitely a good album for the kiwi summer. My only criticism would be that the sound doesn't vary much throughout so you will need more than one album in the car for the road trip. At least a 3 CD rotation.
