Last night was a normal night, doing the Top 20 on The Edge, random callers, banter then Twitter STOPPED MY HEART.
A tweet from our web guy Kooge saying "Confirmed Jay Z opening for U2"
Stopped. Hang on. Wait. What. Can't be true. What. Ring Kooge demand to know the story. It's true. Jay Z was opening for U2.
2 Things went through my mind.
1) Dream Situation - Jay Z is one of my all times. I have every album. He is once in a life time to see live.
2) Oh shit does that mean I have to sit through U2?
I've always been vocal about the fact that I don't like U2, I appreciate and understand they are a great band but personally for me there's something about them and Bono's sunglasses that just grind my gears. U2 & Coldplay. I don't get it. But now I'm spending my savings on a ticket to their show because they've got Jay Z opening for them.
Who knows maybe they'll wow me and I'll take back my Bono digs, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.
I've tried to hunt out a set list for the 360 show but there isn't one leaked yet so looking back on the last festival he played (Wireless Fest) This is what we COULD expect from Jay Z -
Intro
Run this Town
Diamonds from Sierra Leone (Remix)
On To The Next One
D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)
The Takeover / U Don't Know
99 Problems
Is That Yo Bitch
Public Service Announcement
Heart Of The City
Empire State of Mind
Jockin' Jay-Z
Show Me What You Got
Thank You
Big Pimpin'
Hard Knock Life
Young Forever (with Mr Hudson)
Numb/Encore
Could be interesting, not many oldies in there hopefully he adds some more but no matter what he does, we know it's gonna be EPIC.
Jay Z has never played a show in NZ before, I've gotta ask and comment below.
Who are you most excited about U2 or Jay Z?
