If you haven’t heard of J. Cole you soon will be as his debut studio album Cole World: The sideline Story is soon to drop on October 3rd.
The latest of Jay-Z’s protégés and Roc Nation newbie, J. Cole is definitely not one to be overlooked. His star has continued to rise with the release of each of his three hit singles “Who Dat”, “Workout” and “Can’t Get Enough”.
J. Cole has successfully toured with hip hop superstars like Drake and Rihanna and he isn’t stopping there. Two years of working meticulously on his debut album is finally paying off and not only has he gained the respect of many tastemakers like Jay-Z but he has the ability to convey a certain empathy in his rap verses in which audiences of all variety can relate to.
"I could have just filled the album with eight or nine potential singles and hope that some of them work. Or, I could have gone the other route and been super stubborn, using only the personal material and not even worry about selling any records. What I ended up doing was the perfect balance of both. I have a number of all of those styles; the personal, deep records that are almost tear-jerkers and the fun, carefree records and super lyrical songs."
This might be the first time you are hearing of J. Cole but it certainly will not be your last as this newly regarded hip hop heavyweight is bringing lyrical punches that your ears will enjoy.
