Italian model-turned-actress Isabella Rossellini has urged fashion magazine editors to advise women how to grow old gracefully.

The Blue Velvet star, 59, admits she no longer looks to fashion photo spreads to see what's hot because there is nothing suitable for people of her age.

She tells New York Magazine, "I don't look at Vogue to ask what I'm going to wear. Because it's something on a body too young. I have to look at the social pages to see women my age...They give advice to young people...

"I would love it if the magazine said, 'When you are in your sixties and your neck is like this, consider wearing this.'"

Rossellini, who was the face of beauty firm Lancome for 14 years in her prime, admits she misses her days in front of the camera and is disappointed there aren't more opportunities for more mature women to strike a pose under the spotlight.

She says, "There are consequences with age, so you have to evolve. I've loved being a filmmaker. But I would love to continue modelling, and there isn't really any job for me. It's being marginalised - that's the sad part."
