British actor Hugh Laurie has signed up as the latest brand ambassador for L'Oreal to help persuade more men to embrace cosmetics.

The House star follows in the footsteps of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce Knowles, Eva Longoria and Jennifer Aniston, as well as fellow actors Gerard Butler and Patrick Dempsey, in endorsing the company's products.

Laurie admits he was surprised by the offer and thought L'Oreal bosses had made a "mistake", but agreed to front the campaign to help take away the stigma surrounding male grooming products.

He says, "At first I thought it was a mistake but then I realised that L'Oreal wasn't looking for models, but real people with strong personalities, who are worth it... and who aren't afraid to proclaim that using cosmetics can be a very masculine decision after all."
