Like most girls, I’m on the hunt for the fountain of youth or Edward Cullen to battle the signs of aging.
I haven’t had much luck yet, so in the meantime, I’ve been doing some research into how to reduce the lines that are slowly appearing on my face. With all the creams and concoctions out there, it’s hard to figure out what REALLY works.
From what I’ve read, watched and talked about, here are my tips for overcoming the signs of aging without having to resort to surgery:
Remove makeup before going to bed
Most of us know this rule, but it can be hard to maintain especially with late nights or parties that go on into the early morn. It’s important to remove makeup before you sleep so that your pores don’t become clogged and your skin takes on an oily sheen.
While we’re on the topic of makeup, be gentle with your face, only lightly pull at the skin around your eyes when applying eye makeup to ward off premature lines. Don’t smooth concealer under your eyes, rather pat it on, if you can.
Moisturise whenever you can!
Once on Oprah I saw a lady in her 60’s that looked stunning and exceptionally younger than her age, and apparently her secret was that she put moisturiser on her face whenever she had a choice. I recommend using a day moisturise with an SPF 15 factor at least.
When applying, try to use upward strokes instead of downward, especially around the neck area (learnt that one from a mag years ago). For nights, there’s no point putting on a cream with SPF in it, so I use a normal moisturiser for nights. You can buy night moisturiser, but if you’re on a budget then I recommend going for a standard moisturiser.
In terms of anti-ageing creams, I did my homework and get the impression that they don’t prevent aging, so much as give the illusion of younger skin. The ingredients in most anti-ageing products “plump” the skin, rather than prevent aging (though if you found a product that does do the trick, let me know; I would love to know!).
Hydrate your skin
Hydration is the amount of water found in your skin. Oily skin does not mean your skin is hydrated, rather the opposite, it means your skin lacks water and thus the skin’s producing oil to protect it. So as well as moisturising your skin, you can also use a hydrating masks every few weeks or get a hydrating spray that you can spray on throughout the day, leaving you feeling refreshed and your skin gets a little more moisture!
Your diet
Eat your fruits, drink loads of water (carry a water bottle with you at all times if you can) and maybe detox once or twice in the year and you’ll be helping your body from the inside out to combat aging.
Learn to love your lines
The harder of the lessons to learn, that ultimately no matter how much cream we slap on or how how healthy we eat, lines will ultimately form as we get older. The trick is to accept it, love them and transform them from wrinkles into "character lines."
So those are the few tricks of the anti-aging trade I’ve picked up, yet I’m always continuously learning, so if you have some killer anti-aging tips that you would like to share, leave a comment below and help your fellow woman to look stunning!
