So the jacket is rocking, the shoes are hot, and there’s only one thing wrong with this picture. Oh yeah, she forgot her pants. Sorry Lindsay, but it’s a MISS!
Leggings should never, EVER be worn as pants! Even if you’ve got long, skinny pins like Lindsay, it’s not a good look. It definitely leans towards trashy, not classy. Plus you risk the dreaded camel-toe.
I love leggings, and there are a lot of great styles around at the moment, from wet-look, to distressed, torn leggings, to floral leggings. But to wear them, follow one simple golden rule. Make sure your top/dress/jacket covers your bum! I’m always amazed at how so many people seem to forget this rule, and it really is my pet hate. You might have a great bum, but no one needs to see it in all its glory in a pair of clingy leggings made of thin material!
Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that not all leggings are created equal. I.e. sheer stockings should never be worn with a top – these should be kept strictly for underneath dresses and skirts of a decent length. Only wear stockings with a dress you would happily wear with bare legs. Lindsay’s leggings are too sheer, and her top is too see-through. The result? Little is left to the imagination. Wearing stockings in this way will literally make you look as though you forgot your pants. So how to wear leggings the right way? If you’re going to wear leggings, pair with a long top and ensure they are made of a thick, non see-through material, like Ashley Olsen. And of course, follow the golden rule. If your top doesn’t cover your bum – put on some skinny jeans instead! You’ll still get the same look without looking like you only got half-dressed in the morning.
