Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has opened up about his struggle with depression, comparing his suffering to that of late rock legend Kurt Cobain.

The rocker, who has a tattoo of the Nirvana star on his chest, insists he understands how Cobain was feeling in the lead-up to his suicide in 1994.

Durst has even written a song called My Own Cobain for the band's new album Gold Cobra in which he discusses his own depressive nature.

He tells Britain's Kerrang! magazine, "I try not to elaborate too much on the metaphors, but here's something I haven't told a lot of people. We have an older song called It'll Be OK (from 2000's Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water).

"It's directly about me fantasising inside of the depression of someone with a tortured mind, like Kurt Cobain. I really connect with him. I have my own torture.

"I've been impacted by his poetry, his philosophies and music, obviously. On this new song, it's another way into my depression and expression of that turmoil."

Kurt Cobain changed my life with his music- I only wished he could have stuck around to make more. I paid homage to him on the anniversary of his death with my portrait of the grunge legend on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/04/in-memoriam-kurt-cobain-and-lane-staley.html
