MORE ON ELEMENO P:

In 2002 founding members of Elemeno P turned up on the steps of Universal asking for a record deal. The bright-eyed bushy tailed hopefuls were full of life and beans they were also oblivious to “the rules” their country had laid down in order to make it. They were soon to find out that unless you could pack your entire back-line into a Honda city, had recorded your first EP on Dictaphone or wore your father’s clothes you were a phony. This fresh-faced musical outfit had done none of the above. But where these young musicians lacked in brownie points they made up for in drive, dreams and more importantly bloody good songs. Universal records took a chance and unleashed the rock.

Dave Gibson (vocalist/ songwriter) has a solid background in musical performance. Playing drums in a variety of acts: Queen City big band, hardcore band Nickel and in 1998 toured Eastern Europe in a band called Elephant, where he broke his back, the fun has to stop sometimes. He’s also somewhat of a of a media veteran, having appeared in numerous TV commercials and films and also a stint as a radio DJ and fill in VJ for various music TV. He also found the time to complete a commerce degree, and run his own on-line Tshirt business www.closet.co.nz

Scotty doesn’t come from Glenfield but from the hinterland, a “Naki” boy who plays in a large and in charge style laying down the “4-4’s” with gusto. Once again he has a solid musical background having played in many a band and spent over a year in the States playing with the hard touring Hoi Polloi.

Lani gives the boys a true rocking and driving edge. A West Auckland gal who also provides the bass boom in the all female punk band Foamy Ed. When the rest of the band start talking about her it turns into rampant praise “she’s got an x factor”, “she made us all step up to the mark when it comes to rock… she changed our worlds”.

Seven years later we have the stats - seventy thousand records sold, a Tui for Best Group, 10 hit singles, massive TV syncs for KFC and Telecom, a prestigious Silver Scroll nomination and hundreds of gigs nationally and internationally (including the prestigious SXSW in Austin, and a UK tour with Steriogram) later.

Elemeno P are, without a doubt, one of New Zealand’s biggest and most successful bands. Full stop.
