Cameron Diaz's boyfriend Alex Rodriguez has become the latest star to distance himself from allegations he participated in unlicensed high-stakes poker games with a convicted conman.
Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire recently found himself at the centre of a lawsuit accusing him of taking more than $300,000US in winnings from bankrupt hedge fund manager Bradley Ruderman, who is currently behind bars after he was convicted of operating a fraudulent Ponzi scheme.
New York Yankees baseball star Rodriguez has since been linked to the same gambling scandal and is facing an investigation by Major League Baseball (MLB) officials over his alleged involvement.
But the sportsman's representative insists Diaz's beau has been wrongly accused, stating: "Mr. Rodriguez has not participated in these poker games."
Rodriguez vowed to quit his gambling ways in 2005 after he was exposed as a regular at illegal New York poker parlours and reprimanded by MLB bosses.
